Triumph over Tragedy: Mass Shooting Survivor Jarnay Mills Walks at High School Graduation

In the face of adversity, strength and resilience shone through in Jarnay Mills, a senior at W.J. Keenan High School, as she became a true testament to the human spirit. Despite being shot in the jaw during a prom after-party, Mills remained unwavering in her determination to walk across the stage at her high school graduation.

Having undergone two surgeries to aid in her recovery, Mills refused to let her injuries hinder her pursuit of her academic goals. With a remarkable 4.2 GPA and a dedication to her studies, she had taken college-level classes throughout her last two years of high school. However, her injuries prevented her from attending her graduation ceremony at Midlands Technical College.

The mass shooting, which resulted in injuries to eleven individuals, including nine gunshot victims and a girl from C.A. Johnson High School who was struck by a car, sent shockwaves through the community. However, amidst the tragedy, Mills' story stood as a beacon of hope and inspiration.
